Aarani Stoneham is General Counsel and Head of Legal, Data Privacy, AI Governance and Ethics at ModiFace, the L’Oréal Group’s technology company, and global leader in artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies. 

Working in law, technology, and business, Aarani advises on complex legal and governance questions arising from the deployment of AI at scale, including privacy, intellectual property, data governance and emerging regulatory frameworks. 

Aarani serves on the IAPP’s Training Advisory Board in AI Governance and is Co-Chair of the Canadian Technology Law Association’s AI Committee. She is also the founder of AI Literacy Learners™, an initiative focused on helping organizations, educators and students build the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to navigate the age of artificial intelligence. 

Recognized on 2025’s Legal 500 GC Powerlist Canada, Aarani is a frequent lecturer and speaker on AI governance, responsible innovation and the future of legal practice. She will deliver the keynote at the Canadian Legal Summit this October. Her work focuses on how to harness the opportunities of AI while preserving the human judgment, trust and accountability that remain essential in a rapidly changing world.
